Pioglitazone is in a class of drugs called thiazolidinediones. Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) is an oral antidiabetic agent that acts primarily by decreasing insulin resistance.

Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) is used in the process of treating type II diabetes mellitus (also known as non – insulin – dependent diabetes mellitus [NIDDM] or adult – onset diabetes).

Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) may also be described as a white, odorless, crystalline powder and as an oral antidiabetic agent .


Furthermore, Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) easily dissolves in N, N – Dimethylformamide dissolves in anhydrous Ethanol, partially dissolves in Acetone, Acetonitrile, practically does not dissolve in water and lastly, does not dissolve in Ether at all.

Pioglitazone is used, alone or in combination with other medications, to treat type 2 diabetes in people whose diabetes cannot be controlled by diet and exercise alone.

Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) is also used to treat patients suffering from type II diabetes mellitus (also known as non – insulin – dependent diabetes mellitus [NIDDM] or adult – onset diabetes).

Furthermore, this medication inhibits hepatic gluconeogenesis.

Lastly, Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) improves one’s glycemic control and reduces one’s continuous circulating levels of insulin.

Pioglitazone comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken once daily with or without meals. Take pioglitazone exactly as directed.

Although side effects from pioglitazone are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

sinus or respiratory infection
headache
muscle pain
tooth or mouth pain
sore throat
weight gain
swelling of the ankles or feet

If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

difficulty breathing
rapid weight gain
swelling of the ankles or feet that happens very quickly
seizures
loss of consciousness
upset stomach
vomiting
stomach pain
excessive tiredness
dark urine
yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes
anemia

Sometimes, Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) may also cause one to experience a confused state of mind, an increase in urinating frequencies, hyperglycemia, fractured bones and cold sweat.


Furthermore, Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) may also cause one to experience a severe itching sensation, blurred vision, palpitations, drowsiness and night vision problems.

Other than the above mentioned side effects, Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) may also cause one to experience weakness, changes in one’s menstrual cycles, flushing, color blindness and hypoglycemia.


Lastly, Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) may also cause one to experience nausea, chills, dizziness, severe bouts of hunger and a severe tingling sensation.

Inform your health care professional about any other medication that you may be taking in any other form .

Tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially ketoconazole (Nizoral), oral contraceptives, other medications for type 2 diabetes, and vitamins or herbal products.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist if your have ever taken troglitazone (Rezulin).

Sometimes, Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) also interacts with various other medications, such as, Timolol, Glyburide, Fenugreek, Gemfibrozil and Metoprolol.


Furthermore, Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) also interacts with various other medications, such as, Ginseng, Rifampin, Gymnema, Propranolol and Ciprofloxacin.

Be sure to follow all exercise and dietary recommendations made by your doctor or dietitian.

Alcohol increases blood sugar; ask your doctor for information on how much alcohol is safe to drink.

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

If the patient has an ongoing liver disease, they must not consume Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride).

The doctor of the patient must perform a blood test to check for liver problems before the patient starts on the Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) treatment and periodically thereafter.

Tests have proved that Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) improves sensitivity to insulin in muscle and adipose tissue and inhibits hepatic gluconeogenesis.

Circulating insulin levels are reduced as Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) improves the glycemic control in the body.

Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) is consumed once a day either alone or in combination with Insulin, Sulfonylurea or Metformin.

When one consumes Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) with Insulin or Sulfonylurea they may be at risk of developing low blood sugar.

tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking pioglitazone, call your doctor immediately.
you should know that pioglitazone can restart ovulation in women taking oral contraceptives or those with polycystic ovary disease. You are at risk for pregnancy if adequate birth control is not used. You should discuss a reliable form of birth control with your doctor. If you are taking birth control pills, your doctor may choose to adjust your dose.

It is important for the patient to know that before consuming Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) they must inform their health care professional if they have ever had a history of or are currently suffering from type 1 diabetes (insulin – dependent diabetes), fluid accumulation in one’s lungs, diabetic Ketoacidosis, anemia or retina complications.


Furthermore, it is still unknown as to whether Actos (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) passes into breast milk or not.
