Adapin

Adapin (Doxepin) is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) which is present in a group of medications that affects chemicals in the brain causing an imbalance.

Note:The patient may even entertain thoughts about suicide when the patient first starts consuming an antidepressant, especially if the patient is younger than twenty – four years of age.

While on an ongoing course of Adapin (Doxepin) if you notice any of the side effects listed below, or any other symptoms which seem severe or persistent that are not mentioned contact your health care professional immediately.


Sometimes, Adapin (Doxepin) may cause one to experience mood swings, loss of bladder control, seizures, headaches, a dry mouth, palpitations, severe dizziness, fainting spells, low blood pressure, muscle stiffness, rashes and nausea.


Other than the above mentioned side effects Adapin (Doxepin) may also cause one to experience constipation, fever and chills combined with increased sweating, drowsiness, anxiety, pain or difficulty passing urine, hepatitis, panic attacks, sexual difficulties, unusual weight gain, hives and insomnia.


Furthermore, Adapin (Doxepin) may also cause one to experience feelings of impulsiveness, irritability, agitation, mental or physical hyperactivity, hostility, aggressiveness, restlessness, blurred vision, fatigue, stomach pain, swelling of the testicles, difficulty passing urine and a tingling sensation in the hands or feet.


Lastly, Adapin (Doxepin) may also cause one to experience sinus Tachycardia, unusual bleeding or bruising, unusual weakness, eye pain, breast enlargement(males and females), Arrhythmias, myocardial infarction, hallucinations and circulatory liabilities in aged patients (sixty – five years of age and above).

You must inform your health care professional if you are allergic to the formulation of this medication, or to any other medication, in any other form not mentioned below.


Adapin (Doxepin) interacts with various medications, such as, Isocarboxazid (Marplan), Cimetidine (Tagamet), Phenelzine (Nardil), Rasagiline (Azilect), Tranylcypromine (Parnate), Selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam) and Thioridazine.


Furthermore, Adapin (Doxepin) interacts with various medications, such as, MAO inhibitors, other medicines for mental depression, Probucol, Astemizole, Cisapride and Terfenadine.

It is important for the patient to know that Adapin (Doxepin) must not be consumed if MAO inhibitors have been consumed within the past fourteen days.

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

If you need to undergo any kind of surgery, or you conceive whilst on a course of Adapin (Doxepin) inform your health care professional immediately.

It is also vital that you inform your health care professional if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive.

You must also avoid consuming alcohol and beverages containing even a small percentage of alcohol whilst on an ongoing course of Adapin (Doxepin).

Do not double dose to make up for a missed dose. Consult your health care professional if you miss a dose of Adapin (Doxepin).

Adapin (Doxepin) is used to help treat patients suffering from anxiety associated with alcoholism, psychiatric conditions and manic – depressive conditions.

Adapin (Doxepin) must be stored at room temperature between 15 – 30 degrees C (59 – 86 degrees F) away from heat and moisture.

It is very important for the patient to know that before consuming Adapin (Doxepin) they must inform their health care professional if they have ever had a history of, or are currently suffering from, Paralytic Ileuses (particularly in the elderly and in hospitalized patients), thyroid diseases (including increased or decreased thyroid activity), diabetes, glaucoma, liver diseases, blood dyscrasias or Parkinson’s disease.


Furthermore, it is also very important for the patient to know that before consuming Adapin (Doxepin) they must inform their health care professional if they have ever had a history of, or are currently suffering from, prostate complications, schizophrenia, seizure disorders, reflux or digestive disorders, heart diseases or high rates of alcohol consumption.
