Altace  |  | Altace - DescriptionAltace (Ramipril) helps treat hypertension and may be used alone or in combination with thiazide diuretics. This medication belongs to a class of medicines known as Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and may be described as a white, crystalline substance soluble in polar organic solvents and buffered aqueous solutions.
Altace (Ramipril) helps prevent the conversion of a chemical in the blood called Angiotensin into a more potent substance, which then increases the salt and water retention within the body.

 |  | Altace - Uses
Altace (Ramipril) is used to control high blood pressure and congestive heart failure, but it is not a cure. This medication decreases certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels, hence allowing the heart to pump blood more efficiently.
Make sure not to discontinue Altace (Ramipril) even if you feel better, without first speaking with your health care professional.
Furthermore, this medication helps control kidney complications and diabetes. |
 |  | How to Use Altace
Altace (Ramipril) is available in capsule form which may be taken by mouth. This medication is usually taken once or twice a day on an empty stomach, either one hour before, or two hours after, a meal. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your health care professional or pharmacist to explain any part of the instructions that you do not understand.
You must take Altace (Ramipril) exactly as directed. Do not take this medication more, less or more often than prescribed by your health care professional.

 |  | Altace - Side Effects
While on an ongoing course of Altace (Ramipril) if you notice any of the symptoms listed below, or any other symptoms which may seem severe or persistent, you must contact your health care professional.
Sometimes, Altace (Ramipril) may cause one to experience dizziness, mild headaches, a sore throat, diarrhea, fatigue, unusual bruising and fainting spells.
Furthermore, Altace (Ramipril) may cause one to experience nausea, vomiting, chills, a decrease in your sex drive, changes in the amounts of urine passed, and excretion of dark urine. |
 |  | Altace - Interactions
If you are on an ongoing course of Altace (Ramipril) before you commence taking any new medication (either prescription or OTC), you must first consult your health care professional or pharmacist. Furthermore, you must be sure to inform your health care professional if you are allergic to Altace (Ramipril) or any other medication in any other form. Your health care professional must also be informed if you are taking any other medication in any other form whilst on an ongoing course of this medication.
Sometimes, Altace (Ramipril) interacts with various medications, such as, Lithium, Aspirin, Advil, Medipren, Motrin, Nuprin, Naproxen and Anaprox.
Furthermore, Altace (Ramipril) interacts with various other medications, such as, Naprelan, Naprosyn, Aleve, Azathioprine, Digoxin, Celecoxib, Indomethacin and Triamterene.
Lastly, Altace (Ramipril) interacts with various other medications, such as, Sulfamethoxazole, Trimethoprim, Furosemide, DiaBeta, Glucotrol, Micronase and Orinase. |
 |  | Altace - Overdose
In case of overdose of Altace (Ramipril), call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.
Symptoms of overdose of this medication may include lightheadness and fainting spells. |
 |  | Altace - Notes
You must be sure to keep all appointments with your health care professional and the laboratory. Be sure not to share Altace (Ramipril) with anyone else without first consulting your health care professional. Furthermore, your health care professional will order certain laboratory and/or medical tests to be performed to check your response to this medication, monitor your progress and check for side effects. You may ask your health care professional or pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your Altace (Ramipril) prescription.
Elderly patients and children must avoid using this medication. Elderly patient may be more sensitive to the effects and in the case of children the safety and effectiveness of this medication has not been established. |
 |  | Altace -- Missed Dose
Do not take a double dose of Altace (Ramipril) to make up for a missed dose. Consult your health care professional if you miss a dose. |
 |  | Altace - Other Uses
You must speak with your health care professional about any further queries you may have pertaining to your Altace (Ramipril) medication. |
 |  | Altace - Storage
Keep Altace (Ramipril) tightly closed, in the container it came in and out of reach of children. Store this medication at room temperature (between fifty – nine to eighty – six degrees F or fifteen to thirty degrees C) and away from excess heat and moisture. Be sure to throw away any Altace (Ramipril) medication that is outdated or no longer required. Speak with your health care professional or pharmacist about the proper method to dispose of this medication. |
 |  | Altace - Precautions
It is important for the patient to know that before taking Altace (Ramipril) they must inform their health care professional if they have ever had a history of, or are currently suffering from, Angioedema, kidney complications, high blood levels of potassium, dehydration, liver complications, diabetes, Collagen vascular disease, lupus or scleroderma.
Furthermore, if you need to undergo any kind of surgery or you conceive whilst on a course of Altace (Ramipril) inform your health care professional. You must be sure to inform your health care professional if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive. You must keep all doctors’ appointments and make sure that you do not drive, operate machinery or take on any other tasks that could prove dangerous while you are on a course of this medication until you are certain how you react to Altace (Ramipril).
Lastly, using this medication alone, with other medications, or combined with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Your health care professional will advice you to avoid consuming alcohol and beverages containing even a small percentage of alcohol whilst on an ongoing course of Altace (Ramipril). |
