Amaryl (Glimepiride) may be described as an oral blood – glucose – lowering medication that belongs to the Sulfonylurea class. Treatment by this medication is to be combined with a balanced diet and suitable exercise.

Furthermore, Amaryl (Glimepiride) may also be described as a white to yellowish – white, crystalline, odorless powder formulated into tablets for oral administration. This medication increases the amount of insulin released from the pancreas and helps body to use insulin more efficiently.

Amaryl (Glimepiride) tablets contain the following ingredients, Glimepiride, Lactose (Hydrous), Sodium starch Glycolate, Povidone, microcrystalline cellulose and Magnesium stearate.

Amaryl (Glimepiride) combined with diet and exercise is used to treat Type II (non – insulin dependent) diabetes (formerly ‘adult – onset’). This medication stimulates your pancreas which makes more insulin. This medication is also known to make your body more sensitive to insulin.

Amaryl (Glimepiride) is available in tablet form and may be taken by mouth. This medication is to be taken once a day with breakfast or the first big meal of the day. Be sure to follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your health care professional or pharmacist to explain any part of how to take the medication that you do not understand. Take Amaryl (Glimepiride) exactly as directed, do not take more or less of this medication or take it more often than prescribed by your health care professional.

While on an ongoing course of Amaryl (Glimepiride) if you notice any of the symptoms listed below, or any other symptoms which may seem severe or persistent, you must contact your health care professional.

Sometimes, Amaryl (Glimepiride) may cause one to experience symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), anemia, nausea, diarrhea, an itching sensation and vomiting.
Furthermore, Amaryl (Glimepiride) may cause one to experience symptoms of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia), fever, a sore throat, mild mood swings, sudden weight gain and fever.

If you are on an ongoing course of Amaryl (Glimepiride) before you commence taking any new medication (either prescription or OTC), you must first consult your health care professional or pharmacist. Furthermore, you must be sure to inform your health care professional if you are allergic to Amaryl (Glimepiride) or any other medication in any other form. Your health care professional must also be informed if you are taking any other medication in any other form whilst on an ongoing course of this medication.

Sometimes, Amaryl (Glimepiride) interacts with various medications, such as Aspirin, Prednisone, Hydrochlorothiazide, Atenolol and Thioridazine Hydrochloride.

Furthermore, Amaryl (Glimepiride) interacts with various medications, such as Miconazole, Ibuprofen, Sulfamethoxazole, Trimethoprim and Warfarin.

In case of an overdose of Amaryl (Glimepiride), call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

You must be sure to keep all appointments with your health care professional and the laboratory. Your health care professional will order certain laboratory and/or medical tests to be performed to check your response to Amaryl (Glimepiride), monitor your progress and check for side effects.

Do not let anyone else take your medication, and ask your health care professional or pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your prescription.

It is important that you do not take a double dose of Amaryl (Glimepiride) to make up for a missed one.

It is important for the patient to know that before consuming Amaryl (Glimepiride), they must inform their health care professional if they have ever had a history of, or are currently suffering from, Ketoacidosis, liver complications, thyroid complications, kidney complications or certain hormonal imbalances, such as pituitary insufficiency, syndrome of inappropriate secretion of Ant Diuretic hormone (SIADH) and mineral imbalance Hyponatremia. Elderly patients must exert more caution while on an ongoing course of Amaryl (Glimepiride) since; this medication increases their sensitivity to its effects, such as Hypoglycemia.

Furthermore, if you need to undergo any kind of surgery including dental surgery or you conceive whilst on a course of Amaryl (Glimepiride) inform your health care professional. You must be sure to inform your health care professional if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive. This medication may pass into breast milk.

Lastly, using Amaryl (Glimepiride) combined with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Your health care professional will advice you to avoid consuming alcohol and beverages containing even a small percentage of alcohol whilst on an ongoing course of Amaryl (Glimepiride). This medication combined with excessive alcohol causes low blood sugar. While on an ongoing course of Amaryl (Glimepiride) be sure to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, tanning booths or sunlamps. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors.
