Avalide  |  | Avalide - DescriptionAvalide is a combination of Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. This medication may be described as an Angiotensin II receptor blocker and thiazide diuretic combination, which is used to treat high blood pressure.
Furthermore, Avalide is a nonpolar compound and may also be described as a white to off – white, crystalline powder. This medication is slightly soluble in alcohol, Methylene chloride and almost insoluble in water.

Avalide is used to help block the Angiotensin hormone and relax blood vessels, causing them to widen. This medication is also used to help decrease the excess levels of water and salt in one’s body.
Furthermore, Avalide is also used to help treat and prevent strokes or heart attacks. This medication is also used to help protect the kidneys from getting damaged due to diabetes. |
 |  | How to Use Avalide
You must be sure to take Avalide exactly as directed and refrain from taking this medication more, less or more often than prescribed by your health care professional. Do not suddenly discontinue this medication without prior confirmation from your health care professional. You must also be sure to consult your health care professional pertaining to the use of Avalide in children.
Furthermore, when you first commence the Avalide dosage, it may cause you to urinate more frequently. But, to have an undisturbed night of rest, try and avoid taking a dose of this medication post 6 pm.

 |  | Avalide - Side Effects
While on an ongoing course of Avalide if you notice any of the symptoms listed below, or any other symptoms which may seem severe or persistent, you must contact your health care professional.
Sometimes, Avalide may cause the patient to experience dizziness, breathing difficulties, mild changes in vision, rashes, unusual thirst, hives, disorientation, fainting spells and decreased sexual drive.
Furthermore, Avalide may cause the patient to experience an unusual change in the amount of urine excreted (not including the normal increase in the excretion of urine when one first commences their dosage of this medication), excretion of dark urine, headaches, fatigue, an upset stomach, nausea, vomiting and heartburn.
Lastly, Avalide may cause the patient to experience hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). Symptoms of hyperglycemia include excessive thirst, increased urination, disorientation, drowsiness, flushing, rapid breathing or a fruity breath odor. However, if you experience any of these symptoms, refrain from using any kind of salt substitutes or other potassium supplements without first speaking with your health care professional. |
 |  | Avalide - Interactions
If you are on an ongoing course of Avalide, before you commence taking any new medication (either prescription or OTC), you must first consult your health care professional or pharmacist.
Furthermore, you must be sure to inform your health care professional if you are allergic to Avalide or any other medication in any other form. Your health care professional must also be informed if you are taking any other medication in any other form, including nutritional supplements or herbal products whilst on an ongoing course of this medication.
Sometimes, Avalide interacts with various medications, such as Cisapride, Amphetamine, Methenamine, Quinidine, Lithium, Captopril, Prednisone, Diaz Oxide, Digoxin, Phenobarbital, Glyburide, Bactrim DS and narcotic analgesics.
Furthermore, Avalide interacts with various medications, such as Probenecid, Spetra DS, Gantrisin, Ibuprofen, Benazepril, Naproxen, Rifampin, Solage, Voriconazole, Bosentan, Sulpha medications, Imatinib and barbiturates. |
 |  | Avalide - Overdose
In case of an overdose of Avalide, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.
Furthermore, symptoms of an overdose of Avalide may cause one to experience nausea, vomiting, unusual dizziness or drowsiness, unusual thirst, fainting, confusion, unusually rapid or slow pulse and seizures. |
 |  | Avalide - Notes
Your health care professional will order certain laboratory and/or medical tests to be performed, such as blood pressure levels, smooth functioning of the kidneys, blood electrolyte levels and blood cholesterol levels to check your response to Avalide, monitor your progress and check for side effects. You must be sure to keep all appointments with your health care professional and the laboratory. Do not let anyone else take your Avalide and ask your health care professional or pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your prescription.
Furthermore, if you need to undergo any kind of surgery including dental surgery or you conceive whilst on a course of Avalide inform your health care professional. You must be sure to inform your health care professional if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive. This medication may be excreted into breast milk. It is also important for you to know that hot weather, exercise or excessive sweating, excessive vomiting, diarrhea, decreased fluid intake and fever could increase the effects of Avalide.
Lastly, avoid consuming alcohol and beverages containing even a small percentage of alcohol whilst on an ongoing course of Avalide. It is important that you do not discontinue this medication without first consulting your health care professional. While on an ongoing course of Avalide, you must also refrain from driving a car or operating any kind of machinery until you know how this medication affects you. |
 |  | Avalide - Missed Dose
It is important that you do not take a double dose of Avalide to make up for a missed one unless; you have consulted your health care professional.

You must speak with your health care professional about the possible risks of using Avalide for your condition and be sure to consult your health care professional or pharmacist for more information, since this medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses. |
 |  | Avalide - Storage
The ideal temperature to store Avalide is at 77 degrees F or 25 degrees C. But, you may also store Avalide at room temperature (between 59 – 86 degrees F or 15 – 30 degrees C) and away from excess heat and moisture.
You should store this medication in the container it came in, keep the lid tightly closed and out of the reach of children.
Furthermore, you must be sure to throw away any Avalide medication that has gotten outdated or is no longer required. You must speak with your pharmacist or health care professional about the proper disposal of this medication.

It is important for the patient to know that before consuming Avalide, they must inform their health care professional, if they have ever had a history of or are currently suffering from varied urinary complications, such as anuria (inability to pass urine easily), gout, lupus or diabetes, which consequently affects your blood sugar levels.
Furthermore, it is important for the patient to know that while on an ongoing course of Avalide, they must avoid exposing themselves to sunlight, sunlamps or tanning booths. It is also important for the patient to use a sunscreen lotion or wear protective clothing if outdoors for prolonged intervals of time.
