Azelex

Azelex is a topical antibacterial agent used to treat acne.

When applying the cream, use only a small amount of medicine and apply a thin film to clean, dry skin that is affected by acne.

It is important to rub it in gently but well. DO NOT COVER THE AFFECTED AREA with gauze or a bandage unless your doctor tells you to do so.

If you stop using this medicine too soon, your acne may return or get worse.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause temporary burning.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause Pruritus (Itching).

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause Stinging.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause Tingling at the application site.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause Worsening of Asthma.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause Rash.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause Hives.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause Difficulty in breathing.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause Tightness in the chest.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause Skin Swelling.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause Skin irritation.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause Dermatitis (Skin inflammation).

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause Worsening of Herpes Labialis.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause Keratosis Pilaris (Small rough bumps).

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may even cause Skin Crusting.

Other side effects may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your doctor.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may interact with cleansers that contain alcohol.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may interact with tinctures.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may interact with astringents.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may interact with abrasives.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) may interact with peeling agents.

Inform your healthcare professional if you are allergic to the formulation of this medicine.

Also inform your health care professional about any medication that you maybe taking.

You may continue to use cosmetics (make-up) while you are using this medicine for acne. However, it is best to use only water-base cosmetics.

Also, it is best not to use cosmetics too heavily or too often. They may make your acne worse. If you have any questions about this, check with your doctor.

If this medicine causes too much redness, peeling, or dryness of your skin, check with your doctor.

If you miss a dose of this medicine, use it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

Azelaic acid is used to treat mild to moderate acne. Azelaic acid also helps to lessen acne by keeping skin pores clear.

It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

To store this medicine:

Store away from heat and direct light.
Keep the medicine from freezing. Do not refrigerate.
Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed. Be sure that any discarded medicine is out of the reach of children.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) is not to be applied in one’s vagina.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) is not to be applied in one’s eyes.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) is not to be applied in one’s nose.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) is not to be applied in one’s mouth.

Azelex (Azelaic Acid) must be used with extreme caution for children below the age of twelve years.

One must contact their Health Care Professional immediately if they get pregnant while using Azelex (Azelaic Acid).

It is still unknown whether Azelex (Azelaic Acid) passes into breast milk.

One must not use Azelex (Azelaic Acid) and inform their Health Care Professional if they have repeat episodes of cold sores.

One must not use Azelex (Azelaic Acid) and inform their Health Care Professional if they have fever blisters.

One must refrain from sharing Azelex (Azelaic Acid) with other individuals.

Before consuming Azelex (Azelaic Acid) one must inform their Health Care Professional if they consume drinks with caffeine frequently.

Before consuming Azelex (Azelaic Acid) one must inform their Health Care Professional if they consume drinks with alcohol frequently.

While consuming Azelex (Azelaic Acid) one must avoid eating spicy foods.

Before consuming Azelex (Azelaic Acid) one must inform their Health Care Professional if they smoke.

Before consuming Azelex (Azelaic Acid) one must inform their Health Care Professional if they use illegal drugs.

Before consuming Azelex (Azelaic Acid) one must inform their Health Care Professional if they have a history of Asthma.
