Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide) is used to help effectively treat and lower high blood pressure, which in turn reduces the frequency of strokes, heart attacks and kidney complications.

 |  | How To Use Benicar Hct
Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide) must be taken once daily, either with or without food and after you have consulted your health care professional. You must be sure to follow the directions on the prescription label carefully and ask your health care professional or pharmacist to explain any part of this medication you do not understand. Special care may be required pertaining to the use of Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide) in children.

While on an ongoing course of Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide) if you notice any of the symptoms listed below, or any other symptoms which may seem severe or persistent, you must contact your health care professional.
Sometimes, Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide) may cause the patient to experience mild disorientation, light headedness, a decreased sexual drive, a mild fever or chills, fainting spells, hoarseness or tightening of the throat, mild stomach pain, unusual fatigue, or vomiting.
Furthermore, Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide) may cause the patient to experience redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin (including the insides of the mouth as well), a swelling of the face, lips, tongue, hands or feet, skin rashes, dizziness, complications while swallowing, mild bleeding or bruising and rapid weight gain.
Lastly, Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide) may cause the patient to experience mild urinary complications, alopecia (baldness), a dry mouth, diarrhea, mild muscle cramps or pain, an increase in thirst, a dry cough, nausea and dyspepsia. |

If you are on an ongoing course of Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide) before you commence taking any new medication (either prescription or OTC), you must first consult your health care professional or pharmacist.
Furthermore, you must be sure to inform your health care professional if you are allergic to Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide) or any other medication in any other form. Your health care professional must also be informed if you are taking any other medication in any other form, including nutritional supplements or herbal products, whilst on an ongoing course of this medication.
Sometimes, Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide) interacts with various medications, such as Prednisone, Questran, Prevalite, Colestid, Insulin, Amobarbital, Butabarbital, Mephobarbital, Secobarbital, Amiloride, Bumetanide, Chlorthalidone, Ethacrynic Acid, Furosemide, Indapamide, Metolazone, Spironolactone, Allopurinol, Griseofulvin, Lithium and Dofetilide.
Furthermore, Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide) interacts with various medications, such as Ethinyl Estradiol, Drospirenone, Triamterene, Ibuprofen, Torsemide, Etodolac, Prochlorperazine, Indomethacin, Ketoprofen, Naproxen, Baclofen, Carisoprodol, Hydrocodone, Cyclobenzaprine, Dantrolene, Metaxalone, Orphenadrine, Meperidine, Oxycodone, Methadone and Propoxyphene.
Lastly, Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide) interacts with water pills, vitamin A related creams, pills or supplements, calcium and potassium salts or supplements, certain types of antibiotics and anti inflammatory medications which increase ones sensitivity towards sunlight, certain cholesterol lowering medications, medications used to treat blood pressure, diabetes or mental disorders, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MOI medications) and hawthorn (horse chestnut). |
 |  | Benicar Hct - Over Dose
In case of an overdose of Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide), call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.
Furthermore, an overdose of Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide) may cause one to experience marginally slow or irregular heartbeats, dizziness, low blood pressure and dehydration.

Lastly, prior to commencing a course of Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide), you must also be certain to inform your health care professional if you are on an ongoing special diet (comprising of potassium substitutes), if you are allergic to sulfa medications or if you are prone to autoimmune complications or suppressed immune functions. It is also important for the patient to know that before using Benicar Hct (Hydrochlorothiazide) the patient must also be certain to inform their health care professional if they frequently consume beverages containing caffeine or alcohol, if they smoke or consume illegal medications. |
