Biaxin  |  | Biaxin - DescriptionBiaxin (Clarithromycin) may be described as a semi synthetic Macrolide antibiotic, which destroys bacteria and prevents their growth. However, this medication is not effective in the case of virus infections, such as the common cold and influenza.
Furthermore, Biaxin (Clarithromycin) may also be described as a white to off white crystalline powder, which is completely soluble in Acetone and Ethanol.
Lastly, Biaxin (Clarithromycin) may also be described as being partially soluble in Methanol, Acetonitrile and practically insoluble in water.

 |  | Biaxin - Uses
Biaxin (Clarithromycin) is used to help effectively treat mild to moderate infections caused by pharyngitis or tonsillitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, community acquired pneumonia and disseminated mycobacterial skin infections. |
 |  | How to Use Biaxin
Biaxin (Clarithromycin) is available in tablet form and should be taken by mouth, with a full glass of water. Be sure to swallow the long acting tablets whole and do not split, chew or crush this medication. The regular Biaxin (Clarithromycin) tablet and the liquid are usually taken with or without food every 12 hours for 714 days. The long acting tablet is usually taken with food every 24 hours (once a day) for 714 days. But, you must be certain to speak with your health care professional prior to commencing a course of this medication.
Furthermore, you must be certain to follow the directions on the prescription label carefully and ask your health care professional or pharmacist to explain any part of Biaxin (Clarithromycin) you do not understand. Special care may be required pertaining to the use of this medication in children.
Lastly, you must also be sure to take Biaxin (Clarithromycin) exactly as directed and refrain from taking a greater or lesser quantity of this medication or altogether taking this medication more or less often than prescribed by your health care professional. Be sure that you do not suddenly discontinue this medication without prior confirmation from your health care professional.

 |  | Biaxin - Side Effects
While on an ongoing course of Biaxin (Clarithromycin) if you notice any of the symptoms listed below, or any other symptoms which may seem severe or persistent, you must contact your health care professional.
Sometimes, Biaxin (Clarithromycin) may cause the patient to experience vomiting, mild swelling of the tongue or throat, an itching sensation, diarrhea, redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin (including the insides of the mouth), nausea, an abnormal taste in the mouth, Dyspepsia (a feeling of abdominal fullness), mild headaches, an upset stomach, dizziness and palpitations.
Furthermore, Biaxin (Clarithromycin) may cause the patient to experience muscle weakness, urinary complications, oral thrush (a vaginal yeast infection), skin rashes, white patches in ones mouth, changes in excretion of ones vaginal discharge, a loss of appetite, abdominal pain, fainting spells, tooth discoloration, anxiety and a dry mouth.

If you are on an ongoing course of Biaxin (Clarithromycin) before you commence taking any new medication (either prescription or OTC), you must first consult your health care professional or pharmacist.
Furthermore, you must be sure to inform your health care professional if you are allergic to Biaxin (Clarithromycin) or any other medication in any other form. Your health care professional must also be informed if you are taking any other medication in any other form, including vitamins, nutritional supplements or herbal products whilst on an ongoing course of this medication.
Sometimes, Biaxin (Clarithromycin) interacts with various medications, such as Astemizole, Carbamazepine, Digoxin, Paricalcitol, Cisapride, Dofetilide, Ergotamine, Colchicine, Doxercalciferol, Grepafloxacin, Erythromycin, Sparfloxacin, Pimozide, Ritonavir, Atorvastatin and Lovastatin.
Furthermore, Biaxin (Clarithromycin) interacts with various medications, such as Simvastatin, Terfenadine, Zidovudine, Omeprazole, Theophylline, Amiodarone, Quinidine, Triazolam, Azithromycin, Warfarin, Ranitidine, Didanosine, Fluconazole, Ivabradine, Ranolazine and Sotalol.
Lastly, Biaxin (Clarithromycin) interacts with various medications, such as Moxifloxacin, Gatifloxacin, Thioridazine, Propafenone, Rifabutin, Itraconazole, Rifampin, Delavirdine, Phenytoin, Valproate, Hydrochlorothiazide, Furosemide, Alfentanil, Bromocriptine and Cilostazol. |
 |  | Biaxin - Overdose
In case of an overdose of Biaxin (Clarithromycin), call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.
Furthermore, symptoms of an overdose of Biaxin (Clarithromycin) may include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. |
 |  | Biaxin - Notes
Your health care professional will order certain laboratory and/or medical tests to be performed, such as blood pressure levels, smooth functioning of the kidneys, blood electrolyte levels and blood cholesterol levels to check your response to Biaxin (Clarithromycin), monitor your progress and check for side effects. You must be sure to keep all appointments with your health care professional and the laboratory. Do not let anyone else share your prescribed dosage of Biaxin (Clarithromycin) and ask your health care professional or pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your prescription.

 |  | Biaxin - Missed Dose
It is important that you do not take a double dose of Biaxin (Clarithromycin) to make up for a missed one unless you have consulted your health care professional. |
 |  | Biaxin - Other Uses
Biaxin (Clarithromycin) is also used to effectively treat and prevent Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection and duodenal ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori.
Furthermore, you must speak with your health care professional about the possible risks of using Biaxin (Clarithromycin) for your condition and be sure to consult your health care professional or pharmacist for more information, since this medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses. |
 |  | Biaxin - Storage
Store Biaxin (Clarithromycin) in the container it came in, keep the lid tightly closed and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature (between 59 86 degrees F or 15 30 degrees C) and away from excess heat and moisture.
Furthermore, Biaxin (Clarithromycin) must not be used if the medication has changed color or has particles floating in it. In this case, you must be sure to ask your health care professional for a fresh dose of this medication.

It is important for the patient to know that before consuming Betaxolol Opthalmic; they must inform their health care professional, if they have ever had a history of or are currently suffering from kidney complications, low potassium or magnesium levels within the blood, Myasthenia Gravis (a type of muscle disease), Porphyria, liver complications or long QT syndrome. |
