Desyrel

Trazodone (Desyrel) is an antidepressant, that helps to lift mental depression. It can help patients whose depression has not responded to other medications, or who have experienced limiting side effects with other antidepressants. Trazodone may also be used to treat other conditions such as problems sleeping, anxiety, and panic attacks.

Trazodone (Desyrel) comes as a tablet to take by mouth.

Take trazodone exactly as directed.

Side effects from trazodone (Desyrel) are common:

upset stomach
diarrhea
stomach pain or gas
drowsiness
weakness or tiredness
excitement or anxiety
insomnia
nightmares
dry mouth
skin more sensitive to sunlight than usual
changes in appetite or weight
constipation
difficulty urinating
frequent urination
blurred vision
changes in sex drive or ability
excessive sweating

If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

jaw, neck, and back muscle spasms
slow or difficult speech
shuffling walk
persistent fine tremor or inability to sit still
dizziness or lightheadedness
blood in urine
fever
difficulty breathing
shortness of breath
severe skin rash
yellowing of the skin or eyes
irregular heartbeat
prolonged or inappropriate erection

Inform your health care professional about any and all medication that you maybe taking in any form.

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. Your doctor will order certain lab tests to check your response to trazodone (Desyrel).

Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Trazodone (Desyrel) also is used occasionally to treat anxiety and cocaine withdrawal. Talk to your doctor about the possible risks of using this drug for your condition.

Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture.

Before Taking Trazodone (Desyrel),

tell your doctor if you have had a recent heart attack or have ever had:

heart disease or high blood pressure, glaucoma
an enlarged prostate
difficulty urinating
seizures
an overactive thyroid gland
liver or kidney disease

tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding.

if you become pregnant while taking trazodone, call your doctor immediately.

if you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking trazodone (Desyrel).

remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this drug.
