Differin

Adapalene (Differin) is used to treat acne. It helps in keeping skin pores clear. Adapalene is available only with doctor's prescription. To know more about the uses of this medicine, you will need to speak to your doctor or pharmacist.

Adapalene (Differin) is available in form of topical gel in U.S. and Canada. It is very important that you use this medicine only as directed. It is likely that for the first 2 to 3 weeks of treatment, your skin condition may appear to worsen. Do not stop using the medicine during this time.

Apply the medicine to clean, dry areas of the skin affected by acne. Apply it gently and rub it well. Wash your hands afterwards to remove any medicine that may remain on them. Do not get Differin in your eyes, lips or on the inside of your nose or mouth. Do not apply Differin to wind burned or sunburned skin or on open wounds. Apply the medicine away from these areas when applying. If the medicine accidentally gets on these areas, wash with water at once.


Do not use more or do not use it more often then recommended. Also, do not use it for a longer time than your doctor ordered. This may result in irritation of the skin. To help clear up your acne completely, it is very important that you keep using this medicine for the full time of treatment, even if your symptoms begin to clear up after a short time. If you stop using this medicine too soon, your acne may return or get worse.

Consult your doctor about the possible side effects of using Differin for your condition

Adapalene (Differin) intended for cutaneous use only. If the medication applied excessively, no more quick or improved results will be obtained and marked redness, peeling or discomfort may occur.

Skip the missed dose and continue with regular doses. Do not use extra doses, or use for a longer period of time than directed by doctor

Differin should be kept out of reach of children when not in use. When the medicine is not in use or outdated, it should be discarded. Take help of your pharmacist in disposing this medicine properly.

While you are using Differin, you may use cosmetics. After using cosmetics, thoroughly wash and dry the affected area before applying this medicine. However, do not use other medicines on your skin without first consulting with your doctor.


While using Differin, if you are planning pregnancy or you become pregnant then discuss the benefits and risks of using Differin during pregnancy with your doctor. If you are breast-feeding then consult your doctor or pharmacist about the risks to your baby while you are using Differin. This is because it is not known if Differin is excreted in breast milk.

Differin may make your skin hypertensive to the sun. In this case, avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps or tanning booths until you know about the effect of Differin on you. If you have to go outside, use a sunscreen. Do not apply Differin to sunburned skin
