Elavil

Amitriptyline (Elavil) is classified as a TCA or tricyclic antidepressant.

Amitriptyline is used to treat depression and anxiety.

Contact your paediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children.

Avoid alcohol and alcohol containing beverages whilst on a course with this medication.

Take Amitriptyline exactly as prescribed by your health care professional.

If you notice any of the symptoms listed below or any other symptoms which seem severe/persistent contact your doctor immediately.

yellowing of the skin/eyes
slow/difficult speech
shuffling walk
severe skin rash
persistent fine tremor(s)/inability to sit still
jaw/neck/back muscle spasms
irregular heartbeat
frequent urination
fever
excessive sweating
difficulty urinating
difficulty breathing/swallowing
constipation
changes in sex drive or ability
blurred vision

Inform your doctor if you are allergic to the formulation of this medication or any other medication in any other form.

Inform your doctor about any other medication you may be taking in any other form.

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

If you conceive whilst on a course with this medication inform your doctor immediately.

If you need to undergo any kind of surgery,or need an x-ray procedure that uses contrast agents, inform your doctor you are taking this medicine.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive.

Avoid alcohol and alcohol containing beverages whilst on a course with this medication.

Do not treat yourself with OTC medication whilst on a course with this medication, without consulting with your health care professional.

Elavil may cause dry eyes and blurred vision, consult your health care professional if it persists.

Elavil can affect blood glucose (sugar) levels, consult your health care professional if it persists.

Do not double doses to make up for a missed dose.

Consult your health care professional about your missed dose.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Store at room temperature between 15-30 degrees C (59-86 degrees F) away from heat and moisture.

Inform your doctor if you have or have ever had :

difficulty breathing
glaucoma
having intramuscular injections
heart disease(previous heart attack)
liver disease
over active thyroid
Parkinson`s disease
schizophrenia
seizures
stomach disease
thoughts or plans of suicide(previous suicide attempt or family history of suicide attempt)
bipolar disorder(family history of bipolar disorder)
blood disorders/disease
diabetes
difficulty passing urine/prostate trouble
an alcohol problem
asthma
