Lasix

This medicine is a loop diuretic. Diuretics increase the amount of urine passed, which causes the body to lose water and salt. Furosemide helps to treat high blood pressure.

Lasix (Furosemide) may also be described as a white to off – white, odorless, crystalline powder.


Furthermore, Lasix (Furosemide) freely dissolves in dilute alkali solutions, sparingly dissolves in alcohol, practically does not dissolve in water and does not dissolve in dilute acids at all.

Furosemide controls high blood pressure but does not cure it.

Take exactly as directed by your health care professional; may be taken with or without food.

Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Keep in mind that you will need to pass urine frequently after taking furosemide. Do not take your doses at a time of day that will cause you problems. Do not take at bedtime. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

If you notice any of the symptoms listed below, or any other symptoms which seem severe/persistent contact your doctor immediately.

Nausea
Diarrhoea
Skin rash
Vomiting
Headache
Hearing loss
Mood changes
Increased thirst
Loss of appetite
Irregular heartbeat
Blood in urine/stool
Unusual bleeding/bruising
Yellowing of the eyes/skin
Increased sensitivity to the sun
Dry mouth/fever/chills/sore throat
Tingling/numbness in the hands or feet
Severe stomach pain/stomach upset/pain
Ringing in the ears/ dizziness/light-headedness
Lower back/side pain/ muscle pain/weakness/cramps/tiredness

Sometimes, Lasix (Furosemide) may also cause one to experience fainting spells, constipation, reddish or purplish spots on one’s skin, blurred vision, rashes, weakness and dehydration or loss of minerals from one’s body.


Furthermore, Lasix (Furosemide) may also cause one to experience a confused state of mind, vertigo, drowsiness, an unusual decrease in the amounts of urine passed, seizures, a severe itching sensation and troubled breathing.

Inform your doctor if you are allergic to the formulation of this medication or any other medication in any other form.

Colestipol
Water pills
Nitroglycerin
Cholestyramine
Heart medication
Diabetes medication
Certain antibiotic injections
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors
High blood pressure medication
Medication used to relax muscles for surgery

Lasix (Furosemide) interacts with various other medications, such as, Sucralfate, Tobramycin, Cisapride, Ethacrynic Acid, Tricosal, Indomethacin, Disalcid and Aliskiren.


Furthermore, Lasix (Furosemide) interacts with various other medications, such as, Dolobid, Gentamicin, Amphotericin B, Prednisone, Aspirin, Digoxin and Ibuprofen.


Inform your doctor about any other medication you may be taking in any other form.

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Inform your doctor if you have or have ever had :

Gout
Diabetes
Diarrhea
Pancreatitis
Premature birth
Hearing difficulty
Liver/kidney disease
Difficulty passing urine
Systemic lupus erythematosus
Heart disease/previous heart attack
Low blood levels of calcium/ chloride/ potassium/magnesium/sodium

Do not double doses to make up for a missed dose.

Lasix (Furosemide) may also be used to help reduce Edema (fluid retention) within one’s body which is a result of varied body conditions, such as, cirrhosis of the liver, kidney diseases and congestive heart failure. Furthermore, Lasix (Furosemide) may also be used to treat Hypercalcemia (excess amounts of calcium in the blood) to improve certain symptoms, such as, troubled breathing.

Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C), away from heat and moisture.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive.

If you conceive whilst on a course with this medication, inform your doctor immediately.

It is very important for the patient to know that before consuming Lasix (Furosemide) they must inform their health care professional if they have ever had a history of, or are currently suffering from, an allergy to sulfa medications, lupus or high blood sugar levels.


Furthermore, it is very important for the patient to know that Lasix (Furosemide) does pass into breast milk.

If you need to undergo any kind of surgery, inform your doctor you are taking this medicine.

Do not treat yourself with any OTC medication without consulting your health care professional.

Keep all appointments with your doctor and all follow up tests.

If you are suffering from diabetes this medication could affect your blood sugar levels.

This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to the sun or ultraviolet rays.
