Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) is used to treat stomach disorders, such as dyspepsia, nausea, diabetic gastroparesis and vomiting. This medication is also used to help reduce and treat reflux (the process of stomach acid coming back up), gastritis and the constant feeling of being full. Furthermore, Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) is also used to help stabilize patients receiving cytostatic and radiation therapy. This medication ensures an accurate reading of the radiological test, especially of the upper gastro – intestinal tract.
Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) is available in tablet form, which must be taken by mouth and usually swallowed whole with a glass of water. The usual adult dose of this medication is 10 mg three to four times a day, taken 15 to 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime as well, if required. However, in severe or resistant cases the dosage may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg 3 to 4 times a day, prior to commencement of which you must be sure to speak with your health care professional. But, you must also be certain to follow the directions on the prescription label carefully and ask your health care professional or pharmacist to explain any part of Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) you do not understand. Sometimes, Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) may cause the patient to experience an increase in urinary frequency, a dry mouth, dizziness, nausea, changes in appetite, constipation, insomnia and lethargy. Furthermore, Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) may cause the patient to experience skin rashes, mild headaches, hives, menstrual irregularities, excessive thirst, diarrhea, breast tenderness and Gynecomastia. Lastly, Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) may cause the patient to experience abdominal or leg cramps, occasional lactation, irritability, raised serum prolactin levels, impotence, amenorrhea, galactorrhoea and body swellings.
If you are on an ongoing course of Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) before you commence taking any new medication (either prescription or OTC), you must first consult your health care professional or pharmacist. Furthermore, you must be sure to inform your health care professional if you are allergic to Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) or any other medication in any other form. Your health care professional must also be informed if you are taking any other medication in any other form, including nutritional supplements or herbal products whilst on an ongoing course of this medication. Sometimes, Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) interacts with various medications, such as Voriconazole, Itraconazole, Tranylcypromine, Selegiline, Procarbazine, Amiodarone, Phenelzine and Ketoconazole. Furthermore, Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) interacts with various medications, such as Fluconazole, Miconazole, Nefazodone, Indinavir, Cimetidine, antacids and Macrolide antibiotics.
In case of an overdose of Motilium (Domperidone Maleate), call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911. Furthermore, symptoms of an overdose of Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) may appear as drowsiness, disorientation and extrapyramidal reactions especially in the case of children.
Your health care professional will order certain laboratory and/or medical tests to be performed, such as blood pressure levels, smooth functioning of the kidneys, blood electrolyte levels and blood cholesterol levels, to check your response to Motilium (Domperidone Maleate), monitor your progress and check for side effects. It is important that you do not discontinue this medication without first consulting your health care professional. While on an ongoing course of Motilium (Domperidone Maleate), you must also refrain from driving a car or operating any kind of machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
It is important that you do not take a double dose of Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) to make up for a missed one unless you have consulted your health care professional.

Store Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) in the container it came in, keep the lid tightly closed and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature (between 59 – 86 degrees F or 15 – 30 degrees C) and away from excess heat and moisture. Furthermore, you must be sure to throw away any Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) medication that has gotten outdated or is no longer required. It is important for the patient to know that before consuming Motilium (Domperidone Maleate); they must inform their health care professional, if they have ever had a history of or are currently suffering from Prolactinoma (prolactin – releasing pituitary tumor), liver complications, renal impairment, fluid retention, an increase in abdominal or bowel contractions causing bleeding or blockages, hepatic impairment or a puncture in the gastrointestinal tract. Furthermore, while on an ongoing course of Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) you must be sure to get your blood pressure and heart rate checked regularly. Inform your health care professional if you experience any abnormal inconvenience while on an ongoing course of this medication. While on an ongoing course of Motilium (Domperidone Maleate) you must be sure to inform your health care professional if you smoke, use illegal medications or drink beverages containing caffeine. Lastly, while on an ongoing course of Motilium (Domperidone Maleate), if you have developed galactorrhoea and/or gynecomastia, sudden withdrawal of this medication will accentuate these complications.
