Nexium

Nexium (Esomeprazole) may be described as a proton pump inhibitor (PPI).

Furthermore, Nexium (Esomeprazole) may also be described as a white to slightly colored crystalline powder, which is partially soluble in water.

Nexium (Esomeprazole) is used to help effectively treat duodenal ulcers and gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) – a condition in which the acid formed within the stomach washes back up into the esophagus.

Furthermore, Nexium (Esomeprazole) is also used to help effectively reduce the chances of gastric ulcer formation within patients using a group of medicines called NSAIDs. Patients who are 60 years of age or older and patients who have a history of gastric ulcer formation, are more susceptible to the formation of gastric ulcers than patients without this particular complication.

Lastly, Nexium (Esomeprazole) is also used in conjunction with various other antibiotics to effectively reduce and treat ulcer formations associated with certain infections caused by the H. pylori bacteria.

Nexium (Esomeprazole) is available in capsule form, which must be taken by mouth, usually swallowed whole with a glass of water. It may be taken once every day, at least one hour prior to a meal or as directed by your health care professional. Swallow the capsule whole. Be sure that you do not crush, break or chew the capsule. However, if you are unable to swallow the capsule whole, open the capsules and sprinkle the contents on one tablespoonful of applesauce or yogurt and swallow the same immediately. You may also mix the granules within the Nexium (Esomeprazole) capsule with some water or fruit juice and down the solution immediately. You must be sure that the applesauce is not hot and the juices you can use to dissolve the granules include apple juice or orange juice. While taking this medication in the granule form, you must also be certain not chew or crush the granules. You must be sure to follow the directions on the prescription label carefully and ask your health care professional or pharmacist to explain any part of Nexium (Esomeprazole) you do not understand. Special care may be required pertaining to the use of this medication in children.

Furthermore, you must also be sure to take Nexium (Esomeprazole) exactly as directed and refrain from taking a greater or lesser quantity of this medication or altogether taking this medication more or less often than prescribed by your health care professional. Be sure that you do not suddenly discontinue this medication without prior confirmation from your health care professional. You must also be certain to follow your health care professional’s instructions while switching from the injectable form of Nexium (Esomeprazole) to the capsule form of this particular medication.

While on an ongoing course of Nexium (Esomeprazole) if you notice any of the symptoms listed below, or any other symptoms which may seem severe or persistent, you must contact your health care professional.

Sometimes, Nexium (Esomeprazole) may cause the patient to experience blistering, peeling or loosening of skin, a constant feeling of being full, chills, difficulty swallowing, a cough, nausea, flatulence, excretion of darkened urine, dizziness and mild fever.

Furthermore, Nexium (Esomeprazole) may cause the patient to experience joint or muscle pain, hives, indigestion, back pain, an itching sensation, diarrhea, headaches, a dry mouth and a loss of appetite.

Lastly, Nexium (Esomeprazole) may cause the patient to experience abdominal cramps, skin rashes, a sore throat, mouth sores or ulcers, fatigue, constipation, formation of white spots within the mouth or on the lips, body weakness and vomiting.

If you are on an ongoing course of Nexium (Esomeprazole) before you commence taking any new medication (either prescription or OTC), you must first consult your health care professional or pharmacist.

Furthermore, you must be sure to inform your health care professional if you are allergic to Nexium (Esomeprazole) or any other medication in any other form. Your health care professional must also be informed if you are taking any other medication in any other form, including nutritional supplements or herbal products, whilst on an ongoing course of this medication.

Sometimes, Nexium (Esomeprazole) interacts with various medications, such as Lansoprazole, Digoxin, Clopidogrel, Itraconazole, Atazanavir, Omeprazole and Cilostazol.

Furthermore, Nexium (Esomeprazole) interacts with various medications, such as Warfarin, Diazepam, Ampicillin, iron and calcium supplements, Dasatinib, Nelfinavir and Ketoconazole.

In case of an overdose of Nexium (Esomeprazole), call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Furthermore, symptoms of an overdose of Nexium (Esomeprazole) may appear as disorientation or a confused state of mind, profuse sweating, extremely marginal blurred vision or palpitations (unusually fast heartbeats).

Your health care professional will order certain laboratory and/or medical tests to be performed, such as blood pressure levels, smooth functioning of the kidneys, blood electrolyte levels and blood cholesterol levels to check your response to Nexium (Esomeprazole), monitor your progress and check for side effects. It is important that you do not take a double dose of Nexium (Esomeprazole) to make up for a missed one unless you have consulted your health care professional.

It is important for the patient to know that before consuming Nexium (Esomeprazole); they must inform their health care professional, if they have ever had a history of or are currently suffering from liver complications or various other stomach complications, such as tumors.

Furthermore, while on an ongoing course of Nexium (Esomeprazole), you must be certain to inform your health care professional if you experience unexplained weight loss, mild heartburn combined with lightheadedness, sweating, dizziness or mild chest pain, shoulder or jaw pain combined with mild breathing complications or pain spreading to the arms, neck or shoulders.
