Norvasc Description

Amlodipine (Norvasc) is used to treat high blood pressure. It relaxes your blood vessels so your heart does not have to pump very hard. It also increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart in order to control chest pain (angina). Norvasc controls chest pain when taken regularly. It does not stop chest pain once it starts. Amlodipine controls high blood pressure and chest pain (angina) but does not cure them. Your doctor may give you a different medication to take when you have chest pain. Norvasc is sometimes prescribed for other uses. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

How to Use Norvasc

Amlodipine can be taken as a capsule It is usually taken once daily. Amlodipine capsules may be taken with food or milk as Amlodipine may cause a stomach upset. Take Amlodipine exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Avoid drinking grapefruit juice or eating grapefruit 1 hour before or for 2 hours after taking Norvasc. Do not drink alcoholic beverages while taking Amlodipine. Talk to your doctor before using salt substitutes containing potassium. If your doctor prescribes a low-salt or low-sodium diet, follow these directions carefully.


	Norvasc Side Effects Consult your doctor about the possible side effects of using Norvasc for your condition. Inform your doctor if you notice more frequent or more severe chest pain (angina). Your doctor may need to monitor you carefully for side effects and alter the doses if necessary.


	Norvasc Overdose Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, fainting or rapid heartbeat. In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911. If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. It is very important to know as how this medication affects you. Your doctor will order certain lab tests to check your response to Norvasc. Your blood pressure should be checked regularly to determine your response to Norvasc. You need to keep all appointments with your doctor. Continue your normal diet, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Take care to see that no one should take your medication. Always consult your pharmacist if you have any questions about refilling your prescription.


	Norvasc Missed Dose skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Norvasc Storage

Norvasc should be stored at room temperature. It should be kept away from excess heat and moisture. Hence, should not be stored in the bathroom. Norvasc should be kept in the container it came in only. The container should be kept tightly closed and out of reach of children. If the medicine become outdated or you are no longer taking it then you need to discard it safely. Consult your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.

Norvasc Precaution

You need to take following precautions before taking Amlodipine and while you are taking this drug. Inform your doctor in advance?

1. If you are allergic to Norvasc or any other medicine

2. If you are taking or have taken within the last 2 weeks any prescription and non-prescription drugs, especially fentanyl (Duragesic), medication for high blood pressure and vitamins.

3. If you have or ever had heart, liver or kidney disease

4. If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or are breast-feeding.

If you become pregnant while taking Norvasc, call your doctor immediately. If you are going under a surgery, including dental surgery, inform the doctor or dentist that you are taking Norvasc.
