Proctosedyl ointment may be described as an anti – hemorrhoidal formulation. Each gram of this medication contains Hydrocortisone Acetate I.P. 5.58mg, Framycetin Sulphate I.P. 10mg, Heparin Sodium I.P. 100 Units, Esculoside I.P. 10mg, Ethyl 4 – amino benzoate I.P. 10mg and Butyl p – amino benzoate I.P. 10mg.



• Proctosedyl ointment is used to help effectively but temporarily relieve pain or discomfort associated with hemorrhoids (piles).
• This medication is also used to effectively help treat an itching sensation around the anus area, Proctitis; pain experienced after a rectal surgery, Cryptitis; and an overall sensation of discomfort associated with hemorrhoids.

• Furthermore, Proctosedyl ointment is also used to help effectively but temporarily shrink the hemorrhoid tissue, lessening the burning sensation experienced.

• This medication is also used as an effective healing remedy in the case of fissure hemorrhoids.

However, you must keep in mind that Proctosedyl ointment is not a permanent cure and must only be used in the treatment of hemorrhoids and fissure hemorrhoids.
Proctosedyl ointment is available in a tube weighing 20gms and must be gently applied to the affected area, a maximum of thrice a day and to one’s rectal area only. But, in the case of treatment for the external area of the anus you must apply a small quantity of this medication to the affected area twice a day, particularly after each bowel movement. However, in the case of treatment for the internal area a certain procedure must be followed. Fasten the rectal cannula, which is the plastic attachment that is provided with the Proctosedyl ointment to the tube opening, gently but firmly insert the device within the anus to its full extent and squeeze the tube gently from the lower end while simultaneously withdrawing the device. • Sometimes, Proctosedyl ointment may cause the patient to experience chills, acne, nausea, diarrhea, a burning sensation, mild fever, backaches, palpitations and a loss of appetite.

• Furthermore, Proctosedyl ointment may cause the patient to experience headaches, myalgia, vomiting, sudden fluctuations in weight, skin rashes, insomnia, an itching sensation, swelling of the hands or feet and fatigue.
If you are on an ongoing course of Proctosedyl ointment before you commence applying or taking any new medication (either prescription or OTC), you must first consult your health care professional or pharmacist.

Furthermore, you must be sure to inform your health care professional if you are allergic to this particular medication or any other medication in any other form. It is important that you do not apply a double dose of Proctosedyl ointment to make up for a missed one unless you have consulted your health care professional.
