Zidovudine is an NRTI, an antiviral used to treat HIV, with or without AIDS.

Swallow tablet whole, with a full glass of water, to avoid irritation of the throat. Take exactly as directed. Maybe taken with or without food.

As this medication is based on body weight, usage and dosage of this medicine in children should be carried out after consultation with the doctor and taken as prescribed.

Check with your doctor immediately if you notice any of the following side effects:

Chills
Weakness
Abdominal Discomfort
Seizures
Diarrhea
Loss of Appetiten
Nausea
Severe Headaches
Skin Discoloration, also inform your health care professional about any other symptoms you may notice which seem severe/persistent.

Inform your doctor if you are allergic to Zidovudine or any other medication in any other form, also mention if you are currently taking any medication for any reason of any kind.

No specific signs have been identified following acute over dosage with Zidovudine. Haemodialysis & peritoneal dialysis appear to have to have effect on the removal of Zidovudine while elimination of its primary metabolite, GZDV is enhanced.

Inform your doctor if you drink alcohol or alcoholic beverages, have ever had any blood related disorders or condition, kidney/liver diseases, are pregnant or breast feeding.

Do not double dose to make up for a missed one. Record the missed dose and consult your doctor for further information.

Zidovudine does not cure or prevent HIV/AIDS however, it keeps HIV infection from reproducing helping to slow down the destruction of the immune system and helping in delaying the development of problems usually related to AIDS/HIV.

Store at room temperature between 15—25 degrees C (59—77 degrees F) away from light and moisture.

Zidovudine may cause a certain type of white blood cells to decrease in the blood which may cause anemia & muscle disorders. Zidovudine may also cause serious liver damage & a blood condition called lactic acidosis.

Keep all appointments with your doctor & the laboratory, to check your response to zidovudine.

Do not share your needles with anyone and avoid sexual contact, and any kind of contact with blood from cut, wounds and abrasions to reduce the risk of infection.
