The Rotahaler device may be described as a two–part, plastic mouthpiece inhaler which is breath – activated.
The Rotahaler device is used to effectively release medication from the rotacap after you have inhaled deeply. If you inhale correctly, the medication is able to reach the smaller airway passages as well, thereby increasing its effectiveness.
The Rotahaler device comes in a little plastic case more like a compact which stays shut properly, thereby staying clean and disinfected. This device can easily be placed in your purse, backpack or even within the pocket of your jeans without getting damaged.
Furthermore, to use this device is very simple. You must snap the Rotahaler device apart, insert the capsule into a particular slot provided and twist. When you twist the device, the capsule breaks into two separate halves dropping the contents of the capsule and the lower half of the capsule shell to the bottom of the inhaler. Then exhale gently, after which you must immediately deeply inhale the medicated contents of the capsule present within the Rotahaler device. After you have inhaled deeply and breathed in all the medication, keep your mouth closed for a couple of seconds. This deep inhalation will release the medication directly into your lungs. During the process of inhalation, you will hear a particular sound which is the sound of the bottom half of the capsule shell rapidly hitting against the mesh – like barrier separating the upper and lower half of the Rotahaler device when you inhale deeply. Keep in mind that this sound ensures that you are inhaling the medicated powder present within the rotacap correctly. If there is any medication left over or you need to take another capsule, but only if your health care professional has advised you to do so only then must you repeat the entire procedure. However, if you are still uncertain about how to use the Rotahaler device, consult your health care professional. After you have finished remove and dispose off the capsule shells by separating the device.
Lastly, you must be sure to follow the directions provided carefully and ask your health care professional or pharmacist to explain any part of the mechanism of the Rotahaler device you do not understand. You must also be sure to operate this device exactly as directed. Consult your health care professional about the use of the Rotahaler device in the case of children.
Clean the Rotahaler device once or twice a week. Rinse the two halves of the inhalation device in warm water, shake off the excess water and be certain to dry the device thoroughly before assembling it again.
Store the Rotahaler device out of reach of children unless your health care professional has advised you to do so otherwise. Store the device at room temperature (between 59 – 86 degrees F or 15 – 30 degrees C) and away from excess heat and moisture.
