This medicine is an antiviral used to treat herpes zoster infections (shingles) in patients who have normal immune system. It is also use to treat or suppress genital herpes. This medicine can be used in combination with safe sex practices in patients with genital herpes which reduces the risk of spreading this virus. This medicine may also be used for cold sores (herpes simplex).

Some medicines or medical conditions may not be compatible with generic valtrex. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about all the prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are consuming. Inform your doctor about your medical history, allergies, pregnancy or breast-feeding. THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED for patients without normal immune system. If you have any doubts about consuming this valtrex medication, consult your doctor before using.

The possible SIDE EFFECTS of generic valtrex during treatment are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea or headache. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. YOU MUST IMMEDIATELY CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR if you experience side effects or symptoms of toxicity, fever, weakness, speech problems, seizures, yellowing of the skin or eyes, bloody or dark urine, pale skin or pinpoint bruises. If you experience any other effects not listed above then consult your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist immediately.

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE along with other health medications. STRICTLY KEEP THIS MEDICINE AWAY FROM CHILDREN. If you are consuming this medicine for an extended period of time, make sure you have refills before your supply runs out.

If you have missed a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses together.

Generic Valtrex should be stored at room temperature in a tightly-closed container. Keep it away from heat and light.

If the symptoms of possible side effects do not improve within few days or if they become worse, check with your doctor.

If you are using this medicine for genital herpes, begin using it as soon as you notice symptoms (pain, burning, blisters) of an infection.

Use a condom during sexual intercourse.

This medicine may cause dizziness. Don’t drive, operate machinery or do anything that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine.

Using this medicine, alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol, may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks.

Before using this new medicine or over-the-counter, you must check with your doctor or pharmacist.

FOR WOMEN:

If you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. If you are or may be pregnant, check with your doctor for instructions on using this medicine during pregnancy.

It is unknown if this drug is excreted in breast milk.

If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Caution is advised when using this medicine in the elderly since they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine.
